An AI Scientist, Not A Software Reseller

SafeLab AI Engineering is an independent AI consulting and engineering practice in Irvine, California, working with businesses of 5 to 200 employees across Orange County and Southern California. We were founded on a simple observation: most companies do not fail at AI because they picked the wrong tool. They fail because nobody mapped how the business actually runs before switching anything on.

Dailin Hu, founder of SafeLab AI Engineering and former senior AI scientist at BlizzardDailin Hu, Founder
ex-Blizzard Senior AI Scientist

Dailin Hu is an AI scientist who spent his career building production machine learning systems, including as a senior AI scientist at Blizzard Entertainment, before founding SafeLab. He has shipped AI systems running in healthcare and enterprise environments, and his research is indexed on Google Scholar.

That background is the whole point of the practice. Most firms selling AI services to small businesses came from marketing, web development, or managed IT and added AI to the menu. When something goes wrong at the model or data layer, that is where the difference shows up. It also means we can tell you plainly when the answer is a $20 subscription and a written policy rather than a project. Dailin works alongside a small senior team on every engagement. Meet the team.

Four Rules We Do Not Bend

01
Assessment Before Advice

We will not recommend a tool or build anything until we know how your business actually runs, what data you hold, and where the risk sits. Advice given before that is guesswork with an invoice attached.

02
Vendor Neutral

We do not resell software and we take no referral fees from AI vendors. That matters because the honest answer is often that the tool you already pay for is enough, or that you do not need a custom build at all.

03
Fixed Quotes, No Meter

Scope and price are agreed before work starts. The AI Readiness Assessment starts at $2,000 and runs about two weeks. Custom work is quoted per project. You will never get a surprise hourly bill.

04
You Own What We Build

Code, accounts, documentation, and the policy we write for you are yours. Nothing is held hostage to a subscription, and you can take any of it to another firm.

How We Publish

Everything in our Insights section is written and reviewed by Dailin Hu. We publish because the plain-language explanation a small business owner actually needs is usually missing, not to fill a content calendar.

The standards we hold ourselves to:

  • Claims get sources. Statistics and regulatory statements link to the primary source, not to another blog post summarizing it.
  • Third-party pricing is dated. When we quote what other firms or tools charge, we say when we checked. Those figures move, and an undated price is a liability.
  • Articles get revisited. AI tooling changes month to month. High-traffic guides are reviewed on a regular cycle and carry a visible updated date when the substance changes, not when we touch a typo.
  • No sponsored placement. We do not accept payment for coverage, paid links, or vendor-written posts. No tool appears in a recommendation because someone paid for it.
  • Corrections are visible. If we get something wrong, we fix the article and say what changed rather than quietly editing it.

If you spot an error or want to challenge something we published, write to info@safelab.dev and it will reach Dailin directly.

Questions, Answered

Who runs SafeLab AI Engineering?

Dailin Hu, the founder. He is an AI scientist and was previously a senior AI scientist at Blizzard Entertainment, and he has published research indexed on Google Scholar. He is involved in every engagement rather than handing work to junior staff, which is a deliberate constraint on how many clients we take at once.

Is SafeLab a software reseller or an agency?

Neither. We are an independent AI consulting and engineering practice. We do not resell software licenses and we do not take referral fees from AI vendors, so there is no commercial reason for us to steer you toward one tool over another.

What is the legal entity behind SafeLab?

Astro Smart Tech LLC, doing business as SafeLab AI Engineering under a registered fictitious business name. The office is at 200 Spectrum Center Dr Ste 300 - 4093, Irvine, CA 92618.

What size businesses do you work with?

Companies of 5 to 200 employees. Below that, the free tiers of mainstream tools plus a clear usage policy usually get you most of the way. Above that, you generally need in-house staff rather than an outside partner, and we will say so.

Who writes the articles on this site?

Dailin Hu writes and reviews everything published under Insights. We link claims to primary sources, date any third-party pricing we quote, revisit high-traffic articles on a regular cycle, and do not accept sponsored placements or paid links.

Do you work on site or remotely?

On site across Orange County from the Irvine office, with Los Angeles and the wider Southern California region on a scheduled cadence. Training in particular is run in person wherever possible, because attendance and follow-through are markedly better than on video.
