AI For Funded Startups In Los Angeles

Los Angeles has a large startup community, much of it concentrated on the Westside in what people call Silicon Beach, from Santa Monica and Venice to Playa Vista, with more in downtown and the Arts District. Consumer apps, media and entertainment technology, commerce, and B2B software all have a presence. We work with funded startups from pre-seed onward, run LA engagements remote-first with onsite days for kickoff and training, and build AI features in your codebase that your company owns.

Silicon Beach And Downtown

The Westside startup scene grew alongside the entertainment and media industries, and many LA startups still sit near that world: consumer and social apps, creator and media tools, streaming and production technology, and commerce brands. Downtown and the Arts District add B2B software, fintech, and companies that wanted larger floors at lower rents. Teams are frequently hybrid, with engineers across the region or out of state. Competition for experienced AI engineers is strong, and a seed or Series A startup often cannot win that hire yet while its roadmap already includes AI features. That combination defines the AI work here. Engineering needs rules for coding assistants and customer data, product needs someone who can build AI features properly, and sales needs answers when an enterprise customer’s SOC 2 review or security questionnaire asks about AI subprocessors. For media and creative startups there is an added question: what you own when AI helped make it, since U.S. copyright protects human authorship.

The AI Roadmap Outran The Hiring Plan

The product plan includes AI features, and the experienced AI engineer to build them is a hard hire at this stage. We build the first features in your codebase as Custom Engineering Solutions, your company owns the code, and it is documented for the engineer you hire later.

SOC 2 Reviews Now Cover AI Vendors

Customers and auditors increasingly ask which AI services process customer data and how they are governed. If your product calls a model provider, that provider is likely a subprocessor. Listing it, documenting it, and putting it under your policy keeps the review from stalling.

Ownership Of AI-Assisted Work Is Unsettled

U.S. copyright requires human authorship, so content and code produced mostly by AI may be harder to protect. Media and creative startups especially should document where people make the creative decisions, and leave the legal judgment on specific works to counsel.

What An Engagement Includes

01
AI Strategy & Assessment

We work with your team to map where source code, customer data, and company financials flow into AI tools today, inventory every assistant and API already in use, write the AI usage policy and approved tool list your customers and investors will ask for, and hand you a prioritized roadmap.

02
Employee AI Training

Hands-on sessions by function for engineering, go-to-market, and operations, built on the tools you approved and on your real backlog, pipeline, and support queue. Review habits for AI-written code are part of the engineering session, not an afterthought.

03
Custom AI & ML Solutions

When AI belongs in the product or an internal workflow, we build it: agents, integrations with your stack, and private model deployments when customer data cannot leave your environment. Fixed quote, and you own the code.

04
On-Going Support

Vendors change their terms and California keeps adding AI and privacy rules. Subscription-based support re-vets your tools, keeps the policy current, and answers the "can we use this?" questions as they come up.

Remote-first, onsites scheduled

Our office is in Irvine, and depending on traffic that is anywhere from forty-five minutes to two hours from most of Los Angeles. Rather than pretend otherwise, we run LA engagements remote-first and batch in-person work, typically team training and kickoff, into planned onsite days. The deliverables are identical.

Other Teams We Work With Here

Questions, Answered

Do we own code our engineers wrote with AI assistants?

Your rights in AI-assisted code depend on how much human authorship is involved, the terms of the tool you used, and your employment and contractor agreements. U.S. copyright protects human authorship, so the practical steps are to keep engineers making and reviewing the design decisions, use tools whose terms do not claim your output, and have counsel confirm your agreements assign the work to the company. We cover the first two and leave the legal review to your attorney.

Can you work with a startup whose team is spread across LA and beyond?

Yes, and remote-first suits it. We run the inventory and interviews over video, schedule onsite days in LA for kickoff and the main training sessions, and record shorter sessions so remote engineers get the same material. The policy and approved tool list apply to everyone, wherever they work.

Do you work with startups that have not raised yet?

No. We work with startups that have raised a pre-seed round or later, because the policy, review, and engineering work we do assumes a team, customers or users, and a roadmap already in motion. If you are earlier than that, we are happy to point you toward resources and talk again after your round.

How does a Los Angeles engagement start?

A price range from our two-minute quote form, a 30-minute kickoff over video, a written proposal, then the on-site AI Strategy & Assessment: an inventory of AI tools and model vendors across product and internal work, a written AI usage policy covering code, customer data, and AI-assisted content, draft answers for security reviews, and a prioritized roadmap.
